PREMIERE: JAMIE HANNAH – “BAD ROMANCE” – Wonderland Magazine

The classically trained musician releases a stripped-back rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”.
Lady Gaga has been a source of inspiration for many young artists, but perhaps none more than 22-year-old singer-songwriter Jamie Hannah.
After seeing the pop legend at the first live gig he ever attended, Hannah was enchanted by Gaga, and she subsequently served as a major influence on him throughout his burgeoning musical career. “On the tenth anniversary of the release of her original ‘Bad Romance’, I recorded this cover as a sort of homage to her”, Hannah explains. “She fuelled by drive to be a musician, coupled with the fact that she is one of the biggest LGBTQ+ activists”.
The singer’s rendition of “Bad Romance” is almost unrecognisable, until those familiar lyrics from the chorus come in. Hannah’s delicate vocals and the sparse piano arrangement bring a whole other life to the song we all know and love. Filmed in New York after Hannah’s first American show at Ludlow House, the simplistic black-and-white video shows that the exciting new artist has come full circle, from being inspired by one pop icon to swiftly becoming one.
A classically trained musician, Hannah’s merging of pop and classical genres suggest a cinematic, innovative body of work, which will soon be released to the world in the form of his debut album next year.
“This was the best version we had ever on this track”, Hannah tells us. “We wanted to capture it. The track grew and evolved during the session, it was eclectic, organic and authentic. Later we found a videographer who worked until midnight filming with us, feeling the chemistry and the vibe in the room that night. It was magical. Next morning I flew home. This is what we filmed. I hope you feel it too.
