Nelly Furtado has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, but she still has one dream collaborator on her bucket list: Taylor Swift.
Furtado, who recently announced that she's releasing her seventh studio album this September, tells TODAY.com that she already has a song in mind if Swift is interested.
"I have a song I want Taylor Swift on the remix (to). It's called 'Ready for Myself.' Verse two," she says. "She can rewrite it. Write whatever you want. Change the chorus."
Convincing Swift to sing on the track might not be a challenge, since the "Fortnight" songstress recently expressed her love for Furtado during a chance meeting at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
Furtado shared a video of the backstage moment on her TikTok channel last September.
In the short clip, Swift tells Furtado, "I was just singing 'I'm Like a Bird' the other day," referring to her 2000 song.
Flattered and surprised, Furtado responds with disbelief. “No you weren’t," she says.
“Yes I was,” Swift playfully insists then Furtado laughs. “Versatility, dude, you can do anything.”
“Oh my God, every time you write another amazing song, I’m like, ‘She did it again!’” Furtado replies, complimenting Swift right back.
Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager asked Furtado what the sweet moment meant to her when she appeared on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on July 11.
“She’s an icon. I think that it’s such a beautiful flow of life to know that your songs made an impact 20 years later,” she replied.
Furtado said artists do inevitably “second guess” themselves.
“You go, ‘Maybe it was just a thing, a trend,’” she said.
She said knowing that someone like Swift is a fan of her music came as an encouraging boost.
“When you see new generations enjoying your music it becomes very real,” she said.
While chatting with Hoda and Jenna, Furtado revealed that her new album, "7," will be released on Sept. 20. The album, her first in seven years, will feature 14 songs — cut down from 500.
"A lot of passion went into it. I am elated. I'm thrilled," she said.
In another full-circle moment, Furtado got to work with her eldest daughter, who is now working in the music industry.
“(It's a) total blessing. I could never have imagined that," she said.
