Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie is now available on Disney Plus, but fans have noticed some interesting editing choices and are wondering if some mistakes have been made – or if there's something bigger at play.
The film was originally released directly to AMC Theaters, bypassing any other distributor, amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Thereafter, a deal was struck with Amazon Prime where fans could digitally purchase the film to watch with an extra track or two.
However, the latest release comes to any Disney Plus subscriber and features some extra incentives to watch. At the end of the movie, the editors have tacked on a few extra songs from Taylor's acoustic set.
The acoustic set from the Eras Tour is also known as the "surprise songs" as it's the time when Taylor is able to go rogue and do whatever she wants. Originally, she set a rule to never repeat a song later in tour unless she messed it up the first time.
She has since lifted the rule, but it still means that plenty of footage of acoustic songs was available. Her original movie release featured Our Song and You're On Your Own Kid.
The Disney Plus version lets fans hear 4 new songs: I Can See You, Death By a Thousand Cuts, Maroon, and You Are In Love. But fans noticed something odd.
The songs Our Song and You're On Your Own Kid are played twice, once during the normal time for acoustic songs and again at the end when the 'new' songs are featured.
Fans aren't moaning though – they're happy about hearing these songs twice. "Thank you to the person who thought it was a good idea to put our song and yoyok TWICE on the film," said one thankful fan.
And when someone else pointed out the repeat, Disney Plus answered: "We'll never get tired of Our Song."
Like true fans, folks started looking for special clues (Easter eggs). Taylor is known for putting these kinds of surprises in her work, so fans try really hard to find them every time.
Recently, Taylor showed a peace sign (which is also a sign for 2) at the Grammys. This has added fuel to a big theory that the number two is important somehow… but no one knows why yet.
Swift is known for putting number-based surprises in her work that do end up having some sort of meaning, and many are in agreement that it's unlikely that a production as big as this had mistakes, so we'll be keeping a close eye.
