Cardi B says seeing fans rap “WAP” outside the White House was a “big victory” – REVOLT

Cardi B is still on a high after seeing fans rap “WAP” outside the White House after Joe Biden was announced as the projected winner of the 2020 presidential election. The Invasion of Privacy emcee spoke about that viral moment for her cover story with Billboard and said it felt like a win for her and Megan Thee Stallion.
“I just feel like it was such a big victory for me and for Megan,” she said. “I’m so used to listening to raunchy female rap music since I was a little girl — Trina, Khia, Lil’ Kim, Jacki-O, Foxy [Brown]. ‘WAP,’ to me, was just a regular raunchy female rap song, but it caused so much controversy.”
She added, “So many Republicans — not just any Republicans that got an Instagram following — but a lot of Republicans that got blue checks [on Twitter] and millions of followers, [like Ben] Shapiro, Candace Owens, Tomi Lahren — were talking so much crap about ‘WAP.’ So, it was just a victory for me seeing people celebrating Biden’s win with my and Megan’s song. Power of the pussy, ya heard?!”
“WAP” became a smash hit following its August release. The single debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and accumulated the biggest debut streaming week ever with 93 million U.S. streams. It became Cardi’s fourth song to go No. 1 and extended her legacy as the female rapper with the most Hot 100 No. 1 hits.
In an interview with “The Breakfast Club,” Cardi previously shared how the collaboration with Meg came about. “[My stylist] was like, ‘You have to link up. I know you see the comments all the time; the people would love a song with y’all.”
“I told him, ‘I know.’ Like, I’m just shy,” she continued. “One of my big things is that I’m really shy, especially when it comes to girls. I don’t know why. That’s just how I am… But they made it happen. We linked up and we had girly conversations — it was mad fucking funny.”
