Friday is usually a very busy day on iTunes, as it’s when most major musicians release their latest songs and albums. The tracking week for almost all music charts around the world begins on Friday, so it makes sense for the biggest stars to stick to dropping anticipated releases when they’ll have the most time to rack up streams and sales and earn lofty debuts. This week, two of the most successful female rappers of all time shoot straight into the top 10, while a recent Grammy champion returns to the loftiest area on an important ranking.
Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, and Miley Cyrus all claim top 10 hits on iTunes as of this Friday (March 1). The three aren’t together on a song, but two of them have new music out, and Americans have been quick to support the women with some of their latest exciting offerings.
Of the trio of women, Cardi rises highest on iTunes, at least as of writing. Her new song “Like What (Freestyle)” opens at No. 3 on the ranking of the bestselling tunes in America. The track marks her first new release in nearly half a year as a lead artist.
Three different versions of “Like What (Freestyle)” are currently present on iTunes in the U.S. As the main take starts in third place, another edition lands at No. 17. An instrumental of the single launches at No. 20. In the coming hours and days, any–or all–of them may continue to climb.
A few spots below Cardi comes Miley Cyrus with her latest single. The singer teamed back up with Pharrell Williams for “Doctor (Work It Out),” a song that the two reportedly worked on more than a decade ago, but which is only just now seeing the light of day. The tune is credited as a duet between the two, and it starts its time on the U.S.-based iTunes list at No. 9.
“Doctor (Work It Out)” marks Cyrus’ first new release since winning her first two Grammys just last month. She walked away from the annual ceremony as one of the top champions, as her single “Flowers” was awarded both Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year, which many consider to be the top honor in music.
Just one rung behind Cyrus and Williams comes Nicki Minaj, but she doesn’t have something brand new for fans. Her song “Pink Friday Girls” shoots back onto the iTunes chart–multiple versions of it, in fact. The track, which is featured on her latest album Pink Friday 2, returns to the list at No. 10.
Several versions of “Pink Friday Girls” appear on the iTunes chart today (March 1). Slightly different takes of the same title also sit at Nos. 24, 60, 82, and below the No. 100 mark. Fans of the rapper are seemingly rushing to support the track again to push it up the charts, and also to celebrate the beginning of the hip-hop powerhouse’s tour, which starts tonight.
