Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ becomes highest grossing concert & documentary film in history – Music Business Worldwide

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour concert film has officially become the highest-grossing theatrical release of all time among both concert films and documentaries.
The film has generated more than $261.6 million in box office revenue globally, more than any concert film or documentary in history, AMC Theatres Distribution and AMC Entertainment said on Sunday (January 7).
The achievement surpasses the previous record holder, Michael Jackson’s This Is It, which grossed $261.2 million in 2009.

Following a strong opening weekend in the US, the film’s success continued with an $8.7 million debut in China last week after opening on December 31, 2023.
The film is distributed by AMC Theatres Distribution, with sub distribution partners including Alibaba Pictures in China, Cineplex in Canada, Cinepolis in Mexico and Latin America, Variance Films in the US, and Trafalgar Releasing in the rest of the world.
“On behalf of all of us at AMC Theatres, I send my congratulations and eternal gratitude to Taylor Swift for her remarkable and record-setting box office performance with TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR concert film.”
Adam Aron, AMC Entertainment
The film, nominated for the inaugural Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award at the Golden Globes, continues to draw fans to select theaters across the US, AMC said.
“On behalf of all of us at AMC Theatres, I send my congratulations and eternal gratitude to Taylor Swift for her remarkable and record-setting box office performance with TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR concert film,” said Adam Aron, Chairman & CEO of AMC Entertainment.

“Her spectacular performance delighted fans around the world and serves as another strong reminder about the power of extraordinary filmmaking and magic of movie theaters,” Aron added.
As of early December, Taylor Swift’s record-breaking ‘Eras Tour’ became the first concert tour in history to generate more than $1 billion in gross revenues, according to Pollstar, which cited box office reports.
Swift is set to resume her Eras Tour on February 7 with a four-night run at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

The latest achievement follows a big year for Taylor Swift after being named Time’s Person of the Year for 2023, the most-streamed artist globally on Spotify with more than 26.1 billion global streams, and Apple Music’s Artist of the Year for 2023 after 65 of her songs reached Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 100 from January to October 2023, more than any other artist.
Aside from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance World Tour’ has also hit the cinemas with a documentary film called Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé. The artist signed a distribution agreement with AMC Theaters and announced the film after capping off her tour in Missouri on October 1, 2023. The film debuted in the US on December 1, 2023.
