The feeling occurred while she was in a relationship with Alwyn, the singer confirmed during a recent Eras tour date in Australia
During the set of Folklore from her Eras Tour show in Melbourne on Saturday night, the Grammy-winning Taylor Swift revealed that she was lonely while writing the hit album, quarantined during the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020 whilst dating Joe Alwyn.
When she wrote Folklore, Swift was in four years into a relationship with Alwyn. In fact, the British actor even helped write some of the songs on the 2020 album, including Exile and Betty but it didn’t stop her from feeling isolated and as though something was missing.
“[I was] imagining that, instead of being a lonely millennial woman covered in cat hair drinking my weight in white wine,” Swift said to the crowd in Australia. “I was a ghostly Victorian lady wandering through the woods with a candle in a candlestick holder, and I wrote only on parchment with a feathered quill.
“That was in my mind, what I thought I looked like writing Folklore. That is not what I looked like. So that’s all that matters, the delusion.”
The pair broke up in early 2023 but it didn’t take Swift long to move on from their seven-year relationship together as by the end of the year she had already found herself a new man.
The singer is currently in a relationship with Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs‘ NFL player and was present at Super Bowl LVIII when she watched him become a three-time Super Bowl champion and even took to the field to celebrate with him.
And one thing that is quite notable about how they operate is that whilst, yes, they are willing to be seen in public and they do not hide their affection and love for each other, most of the details of what’s going on between the pair is unknown.
Kelce, in fact, has made a specific point of saying that he doesn’t want to reveal anything that will cross their personal bounds for privacy and their respect for each other and it’s possibly something Swift adapted from the media reception to her ex.
“I think that in knowing him [Alwyn] and being in the relationship I am in now,” Swift said to Paul McCartney and Rolling Stone in 2020. “I have definitely made decisions that have made my life feel more like a real life and less like just a storyline to be commented on in tabloids.
“Whether that’s deciding where to live, who to hang out with, when to not take a picture, the idea of privacy feels so strange to try to explain, but it’s really just trying to find bits of normalcy.”
