During the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor Swift appeared on TV more than some players, as the cameras kept cutting to her in her suite, filled with friends and the family of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who was playing on the field. Plenty of other celebrities were in attendance as well, including her sometimes-rival Kanye West. According to a famous football player, the pop and country singer may have requested that the hip-hop musician be removed from the game entirely.
One-time NFL player Brandon Marshall stated in his podcast Paper Route that Swift may have been the reason that West left the Super Bowl. Marshall tells an odd story on the latest episode of his series—one which even his co-hosts hadn’t heard—explaining what happened between the two stars–according to him, that is.
“So Kanye West pulls up to Super Bowl… Kanye West buys a ticket right in front of Taylor Swift’s booth,” Marshall said on Paper Route. He opined that the rapper may have done so to make sure that “any time they were going to be showing [Taylor Swift], Kanye’s face was going to be there.”
Marshall went on to explain that West “had a mask on,” which he called “typical Kanye.” The former football player then guessed that based on West’s appearance, “Taylor Swift gets pissed off.” He then added, without seemingly any confirmation, that the Grammy winner “makes a call or two, everybody’s involved,” before adding that “[Kanye] gets kicked out of the stadium.”
At present, there doesn’t appear to be evidence to confirm that West was kicked out of the Super Bowl. He did leave the game, but whether he and his partner were asked to leave or departed the game on their own isn’t clear. Representatives for both West and Swift had not responded to requests for clarification regarding this report by press time.
West and Swift have a troubled relationship, though these days, at least Swift does her best to stay away from the rapper and avoid any conversations that involve her and him. He has regularly dipped back into the controversy that started more than a decade ago when he interrupted her MTV Video Music Awards speech. He also named her in a manner she found offensive in his single “Famous.”
Recently, West namedropped her in a song featured on his new album Vultures 1. While his comment this time around wasn’t cited as many as particularly ugly, Swift likely doesn’t want to be involved in the project at all. Vultures 1 marks West’s first album in years, and his first since he shared many anti-Semitic views in a number of interviews and on social media, making him even more controversial than in the past.
Whether Swift actually asked for West to be removed is not certain, but it certainly does seem that the “Cruel Summer” singer had a great evening—even if it was interrupted by another musician she’s not a fan of. Swift’s beau Kelce and his team the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl again, and she got to celebrate with them on the field after all was said and done.
