Director Todd Phillips has released a new look at his highly anticipated sequel movie Joker: Folie a Deux, which sees Joaquin Phoenix reprise his role as The Joker/Arthur Fleck from the original 2019 movie.
Phoenix is joined by Lady Gaga, who will portray Harley Quinn for the first time. As of yet, details surrounding the film’s plot are few, but it’s believed to be a drama taking place in and around Arkham Asylum.
Joker 2 also sees Zazie Beetz return from the first film, while the likes of Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey have all joined the cast.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Phillips released a handful of images of Phoenix as Fleck and Gaga as Quinn, with their characters dancing together and touching faces. The director captioned his online post, “Hoping your day is full of love.”
Margot Robbie had previously played Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad movies and has expressed her joy at being able to see Gaga’s version of the superhero movie villain.
“I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters,” Robbie told Variety.
She added, “That was always the dream for her. Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”
