Bradley Cooper reveals he considered Adele for 'A Star Is Born' – Far Out Magazine

Lady Gaga was lauded when she co-starred with Bradley Cooper in the latter’s directorial debut A Star Is Born, but now Cooper has revealed that Adele was also under consideration for the role.
Prior to being cast in A Star Is Born, Gaga already had a Golden Globe win under her belt after collecting the trophy for ‘Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film’ following her turn in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel. However, A Star Is Born marked her first major theatrical acting credit and made her a Hollywood star.
Gaga landed a ‘Best Actress’ nomination at the Academy Awards in addition to sharing a victory in the ‘Best Original Song’ category for ‘Shallow’. Yet, in another universe, the role could have belonged to Adele.
“I thought about Adele for a while,” he confirmed at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which would have changed the film’s narrative. “It was like, his career’s not great. He goes abroad. He meets this woman, but no, and then that never even took off at all.”
When Cooper’s version was initially announced, he was set to play the male lead opposite Beyoncé with Clint Eastwood calling the shots from behind the camera. However, these plans changed, and Cooper chose to direct the project himself with Gaga in the leading role.
“She was incredible. And we went down the road and then it didn’t work out. I remember I was so nervous. I had this weird cough as I was pitching it to her,” he said of Beyoncé.
Following his latest film Maestro, Cooper has been nominated for the ‘Best Actor’ award at the upcoming Academy Awards. Furthermore, the Leonard Bernstein biopic is also up for ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Original Screenplay’.
Cooper said of the nominations: “We are all so grateful to be recognised along all of these incredible works of art this year. And the performances from every actor who I so admire. Thank you to Jamie, Alex & Nina Bernstein for allowing their parents’ story to be out there in the world and thank you to the Academy. We are very honored to be included.”
