Taylor Swift’s impact on the NFL this season — bringing fathers and daughters together to watch Chiefs games as the singer cheered on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce — will be documented in a Super Bowl 2024 commercial.
The Cetaphil ad, which was released on the skincare company’s YouTube page ahead of the game, started with a father watching a football game on the couch as his daughter, wearing headphones, walks toward the kitchen.
Then, as she’s making popcorn in the microwave, the father showed her the football game on his phone, perhaps trying to interest her in watching, but she walked away with the popcorn, sat down on a separate piece of furniture and started using Cetaphil cream for her face.
But when an announcer said, “Well, folks, there she is,” the daughter’s eyes darted toward the sound.
Her father ultimately ended up gifting her a red No. 13 jersey to wear, and they shared an embrace while watching on the couch — while both wearing jerseys.
“This season, dads and daughters found a new way to connect,” a message in the commercial showed near the end of the ad.
While Cetaphil didn’t mention Swift — or the Chiefs — by name, there were hints dropped throughout the commercial.
The father wore a red No. 89 jersey, a likely reference to Swift’s “1989” album.
Both the father and daughter had bracelets scattered around their arms, too.
Swift has become one of the league’s defining names since she and Kelce started dating, and she attended 12 games this year — and will also attend a 13th on Sunday, when the Chiefs face the 49ers at Allegiant Stadium and attempt to win their second consecutive Super Bowl and third in five years.
Swift, her family and the rest of the Kelce family will share a suite that Kelce purchased, according to TMZ, and she left Japan Saturday after a show and was reportedly expected to arrive around 26 hours ahead of the game.
“Having the ‘Taylor Swift Effect’ is also a positive,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters earlier this week. “Both Travis and Taylor are wonderful young people. They seem very happy. She knows great entertainment, and I think that’s why she loves NFL football.
“But I think it’s great to have her a part of it. Obviously, it creates a buzz, it creates another group of young fans, particularly young women, that are interested in seeing, ‘Why is she going to this game? Why is she interested in this game?’
“Besides Travis, she’s a football fan, and I think that’s great for us.”
