The film will be streaming on Disney in March
Taylor Swift is continuing to make big bucks with her blockbuster Eras Tour, as Disney has reportedly shelled out over $75 million to exclusively stream “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” on Disney+ worldwide. This deal, according to Puck News, came after Disney outbid both Netflix and Universal Pictures for the streaming rights.
The expanded version of the tour will include five songs that were not featured in previous versions of the movie, but neither Swift nor Disney has revealed what those songs will be.
The original theatrical release of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” premiered on October 13 and brought in a whopping $261.7 million at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing concert film to date. The film was shot during the first three L.A. shows of the Eras tour from August 3-5, 2023, but the 2-hour-and-45-minute theatrical release left out several songs from the performances.
The newly expanded version of “The Eras Tour” is set to debut on Disney+ on March 15 and will feature bonus songs including “Cardigan” from Swift’s 2020 album “Folklore,” as well as four acoustic songs that have yet to be disclosed. Based on Variety’s analysis of Swift’s shows at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium, it is likely that the four acoustic “surprise songs” she performed will be included in the streamer. These songs are speculated to be “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” “Maroon,” “You Are in Love,” and “I Can See You.”
Disney chief Bob Iger expressed excitement about the upcoming release: “We know audiences are going to absolutely love the chance to relive the electrifying ‘Taylor Swift: Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)’ whenever they want on Disney+.” The digital release of the tour was made available on December 13, which also happens to be Swift’s birthday. This version, distributed by Universal, included three bonus songs that were not seen in theaters, pushing its runtime to 3 hours and 1 minute.
It’s clear that Taylor Swift‘s star power and dedicated fanbase are driving the success of her Eras Tour, and with Disney+ securing exclusive streaming rights, it looks like the singer-songwriter-entrepreneur is set to continue her winning streak.
