Taylor Swift thrilled her legion of fans all around the world earlier this week by making the announcement so many had been waiting for: the singer’s concert film is finally coming to streaming. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will arrive on Disney+ on March 15, becoming widely available to the masses once again.
The superstar doesn’t need to do a single thing to ensure that TTaylor Swift: The Eras Tour becomes incredibly popular on Disney’s streaming platform, but she’s gone out of her way to mix things up a bit. In her announcement, Swift revealed a detail that is sure to excite her followers and make her concert film a must-see, even for those who caught the flick in theaters.
The Disney+ acquisition, which the chart-topper has titled Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version), is slightly different from what was shown in cinemas globally last year. According to Swift herself, the streamable edition will feature five songs that were performed during the tour, but previously not shown.
One of the five new additions to the film’s setlist will be “Cardigan,” one of her most recent Hot 100 No. 1s. The song served as the lead single from her surprise album Folklore, and it became an immediate win for the legendary pop artist. “Cardigan” debuted atop Billboard’s ranking of the top-consumed songs in the U.S. and went on to earn her several Grammy nominations.
As for the other four songs that will be featured on Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) that haven’t yet been seen in the movie, they’re anybody’s guess. Swift did share that they were filmed during the acoustic section of her recent concerts, which isn’t much of a clue.
At each date on her The Eras Tour, Swift chose two tracks from her discography that weren’t included in the usual setlist. She performed different ones each night, with one being on the piano and the other on an acoustic guitar. What tunes she’d select for each evening became a trending topic after every show, with fans tracking each pick. Now, she’s chosen just four to be featured in her concert picture.
When Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour first became available for fans to view at home, it was only offered as a rental–and a pricey one. The title could only be rented for nearly $20, which is what it cost to see it in theaters. When it arrived on platforms like Amazon AMZN to watch anywhere, Swift made it more enticing by including “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer,” and “Long Live,” which weren’t originally in the movie when it his theaters.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was a massive global box office success, and it’s bound to be huge on Disney+ as well. The film made more than a quarter of a billion dollars while it was still in theaters. It easily broke the record as the highest-grossing concert film of all time, and it made the singer herself a fortune.
