Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Infamous Italian “Black Widow” Patrizia Reggiani — who is being portrayed by Lady Gaga in the upcoming crime drama “House of Gucci” — was so eager to find someone to carry out a hit on her cheating husband, she even asked a local butcher for help.
“Is anyone brave enough to kill my husband?” the former Italian socialite recalls saying in an exclusive clip from the new Discovery+ documentary “Lady Gucci: The Story of Patrizia Reggiani.”
The now 72-year-old didn’t get a bite from her butcher, but she kept asking people until, eventually, her friend and psychic, Giuseppina Auriemma, contacted the man who shot Maurizio Gucci dead on March 27, 1995.
“She’d asked all of Milan to find a murderer,” Auriemma said. “Nobody took her seriously. I was the only fool.”
Reggiani, who did 18 years in prison for hiring the killer, says in the documentary that she was furious at her husband for gallivanting around with other women and not leaving any money for their daughters.
“Maurizio was cutting us out,” she said. “He no longer wanted to see his family. We had four houses in Saint Moritz, and he didn’t want to give even one to my daughters.”
Auriemma said the cheating hurt Reggiani’s pride.
“‘She felt hurt, humiliated, because he’d found himself another woman, he’d built another life for himself,” she said.
Reggiani and Gucci were married in 1973 and shared daughters Allegra and Alessandra.
In 1985, the businessman and one-time head of the Gucci fashion house left Reggiani for a woman named Paola Franchi, a blond-haired, green-eyed actress who was the physical opposite of his wife.
Reggiani and Gucci divorced in 1994 and Reggiani was awarded a $100,000 monthly allowance in alimony.
However, in 1995, a stylishly dressed gunman shot Gucci dead outside of his Milan office. He was reportedly worth nearly $100 million at the time of his death.
“Something snapped in her,” Reggiani’s pal Auriemma said in the Discovery+ doc. “Maybe it was a blow to her narcissism.”
Dressed head-to-toe in a powder-pink pantsuit, Reggiani said she considered taking out Gucci herself, but said her “shortcoming” is that she “can’t aim straight.”
“I had to find the right people who would do it for me,” she said.
Reggiani was arrested in 1998 for arranging the murder of her husband, and later sentenced to 29 years in prison. She was released early in 2016 after serving 18 years due to “good behavior.”
This year, hype has begun to build around “House of Gucci” as photos of Gaga, 34, dressed as Reggiani on set surfaced online. Adam Driver is playing Gucci in the film.
“Lady Gucci: The Story of Patrizia Reggiani” premieres Saturday on Discovery+.
