Prince Harry pledged his allegiance to Formula 1 over the weekend.
The Duke of Sussex headed to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on Sunday to meet with two teams prior to the United States Grand Prix. He was one of many celebrities who attended the 56-lap race but was given a sneak peek at the happenings behind the scenes.
Sporting a casual black polo shirt and mirrored shades, the royal caught up with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team for a tour of their garage ahead of the race. Harry shared a few laughs with the team’s executive director Toto Wolff and driver George Russell. The British racer finished fifth in the GP, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen taking first place and the 50th win of his F1 career.
The Duke also popped by Red Bull’s garage to chat with team principal Christian Horner before the race (pictured top) but didn’t get a chance to rub shoulders with Verstappen.
A longtime motorsport fan, Prince Harry has many ties to Formula 1. He attended the British Grand Prix with his mom, the late Princess Diana, back in 1994, then went to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2014. In 2020, the Duke opened a museum at Silverstone with British racer Lewis Hamilton. He was driven to the British circuit by the seven-time F1 champ to unveil the new Silverstone Experience in Northamptonshire. It was one of his last engagements as a working royal.
This F1 championship has actually attracted quite a few blue bloods: Princess Charlene was spotted at the Monaco Grand Prix in May, while Queen Máxima and the Dutch royals appeared at the Dutch Grand Prix F1 race in August.
The U.S. Grand Prix piqued the interest of many A-listers, too. Actors Drew Barrymore and Adam Driver went to the previews on October 19, while Elon Musk, Patrick Dempsey, Joe Jonas, and Geri Halliwell were spotted on race day.
Let’s see who’s in the stands at the Mexican GP this Sunday, then.
