Lady Gaga recently made an exciting announcement regarding a film connected to her recent The Chromatica Ball Tour. In an Instagram post, Gaga revealed that she has been working on a project that might be a hybrid documentary and concert movie. While the exact details and release date remain unknown, one can’t help but wonder about the motivations behind this undertaking. Perhaps Gaga is driven by the artistic aspect of it, the desire to make her fans happy, or even the aspiration to win some major awards – a feat that never hurts when you’re a superstar.
This as-yet-untitled Chromatica film could potentially bring Gaga back to the Emmys, an award she has been nominated for four times in the past. These nominations have spanned across various years and categories, showcasing Gaga’s versatility and talent. While she hasn’t clinched an Emmy victory yet, her involvement in television projects might just be getting started.
If the Chromatica film follows in the footsteps of Gaga’s previous musical specials, it could become a strong contender in multiple Emmy categories. The singer has earned most of her Emmy nominations as a producer and/or performer in similar concert-focused projects that resonated well with Emmy voters. As a result, this latest documentary could already be considered competitive for an Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) nomination, even without anyone having seen it.
Following the example set by The Weeknd, who submitted himself in the Musical Direction category for Emmy voters to consider for his own concert film, Gaga could potentially do the same. Given her deep involvement in all aspects of her tour and music, she may secure nominations in multiple categories for the same production, further expanding her chances of taking home an Emmy.
In addition to the Emmys, the Chromatica project holds potential for recognition in the Grammy Awards’ Best Music Film category. While Gaga has never been up for this particular award before, she has previously won Best Short Form Music Video for her iconic song “Bad Romance.” Given her illustrious career and numerous Grammy wins, it would be fitting for her to submit this latest work for consideration and explore the possibility of adding another Grammy to her collection.
Expanding beyond music and television, there is also a slim chance that depending on the film’s release strategy, Lady Gaga could submit it for consideration at the Oscars. While it may be a stretch considering the limited recognition typically given to documentaries in the Academy Awards, it would present an opportunity for Gaga to return to the prestigious ceremony where she has already claimed a statue and received multiple nominations.
