Ramy Youssef is gearing up for the release of his new HBO comedy special, and the stand-up comic and Poor Things star received some support from an unexpected superstar as he got the material for his special worked out.
Youssef walked the red carpet at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday in Hollywood, outside the Dolby Theatre, and he spoke with ET’s Nischelle Turner and Kevin Frazier about getting to spend some time recently with Taylor Swift after one of his stand-up shows.
“I got to hang with Taylor a few times, she’s incredibly kind. Really funny,” Youssef shared. “She could easily hang in comedy.”
While some might be surprised by that assessment, Youssef explained it’s all about her “timing.”
“Music is timing [too], and she’s just got that kind of timing,” he explained. “She’s so cool.”
Swift came out as he was getting the material ready and perfected for his forthcoming special, Ramy Youssef: More Feelings, which is set to premiere March 23 on HBO.
Meanwhile, Youssef was on hand on Sunday to support his film, Poor Things, which is nominated for an impressive 11 awards — including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Screenplay, among many others.
The film has been a massive hit with critics, despite (or perhaps due to) its somewhat surreal story, bold stylistic choices and surprisingly daring performances.
“It’s so cool to have something so original pierce people and hit with audiences,” Youssef said of the film — which also stars Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, and Willem Dafoe, and was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. “It was really exciting to be a part of.”
“And yeah, it was for the weirdos,” he added with a laugh.
The 2024 Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, airs live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on ABC. Follow along at ETonline.com for full Oscars coverage, including red carpet arrivals, the complete winners list and more.
