Taylor Swift fans convinced her new album is savage dig at her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn – The Mirror

Taylor Swift delighted fans as she announced a brand new album at the 2024 Grammy Awards, but fans are convinced the move is a brutal nod to her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn
Taylor Swift seems to have hit out at her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn as she announced a brand new album at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
The Shake It Off hitmaker, 34, took to the stage at the glitzy ceremony as she revealed: "I know the way Recording Academy voted is the direct reflection of the passion of the fans, so I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I've been keeping from you for the past two years which is that my brand new album comes out April 19.
"It's called the Tortured Poets Department." Fans are convinced the name of the album is a brutal swipe at the group chat Joe shared with his pals Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott.

"JOES GROUPCHAT [sic] W PAUL WAS CALLED THE TORTURED MENS CLUB," one excited fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. Another added: "Apparently, joe and paul mescal’s whatsapp gc was called ‘the tortured mens club’ LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO."
A third fan posted: "TAYLOR SAID F**K YOUR TORTURED MENS CLUB." Another fan believes the album is going to focus heavily on Taylor's relationship with Joe. They said: "I’m actually so obsessed with the concept of this album already. 'All's fair in love and poetry' is giving 'you treated me the way you did and it's fair game for me to write about it'."
Back in 2022, Joe and Paul sat down with Variety and opened up about their boys-only group chat which was founded by Andrew. "[Scott is] just on it every day. He’s just on it by himself," Pual joked.
Joe chimed in: "Just messaging himself good mornings." Joe previously opened up about the group chat in an interview with GQ magazine, explaining it was a nod to the characters he and Paul played in Conversations with Friends and Normal People respectively.
Joe and Taylor split in April 2023 after six years together. At the time, a source insisted the breakup wasn't dramatic. Speaking to Page Six, they explained the relationship had "just ran its course".
Joe hasn't been linked to anyone new since the split. Meanwhile, Taylor has been enjoying a romance with her new boyfriend Travis Kelce. The couple went public with their relationship in September 2023 and have since been seen in public enjoying a number of dates.
