Given how well his love life is going with Taylor Swift and the multitude of opportunities that await him away from the football field, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce could easily retire. The fact that he has the fortitude to carry on into his age-35 season at a very physical position speaks to just how much Kelce loves the game.
Beyond all the intangibles and intrinsic motivation that drive Kelce to carry on, if anything his relationship with Swift seems to fuel him even more. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to longtime NFL insider Dianna Russini in an upcoming podcast, and explained how he actually views the Trav-Taylor couple as a huge positive for both megastars.
“He can handle it. I think there’s a great escape for him. I said that about Taylor, too — she comes to the games, she can kind of escape having to be the show. And when he goes to her concerts, she’s the star, and he can be hanging out and be the support or the water boy.”

It’s been pretty wild to see how many more fans Swift has brought to the NFL on her own. Conspiracy theorists were convinced the Chiefs getting to the Super Bowl (and winning) was a ploy to make sure Swift was on-site for the Big Game to maximize exposure, profitability, and so forth. I don’t buy into that. You don’t stumble into three Lombardi Trophies in five years by accident.
Has Kansas City gotten a few breaks from the refs in that span? Sure, but they also have Patrick Mahomes, the Capital-T “Truth” of superstar quarterbacks. He and Kelce are one of the best pound-for-pound pass-catching combinations in football history after all.
Many Swiftie friends of mine who didn’t pay attention to football before are suddenly interested thanks to the power couple to end all power couples. For all the bummer relationships Taylor has written songs about over the years, it seems like she might’ve finally found the right match with Kelce. Reid would know better than almost anyone what the inner workings are and whether Taylor is some big, unwelcome distraction. He put to bed any notion of that being the case, and sees how Kelce and Taylor feed off each other in a beautiful, positive way.
Still hard to believe this all began with Trav just wanting to give Taylor a friendship bracelet. Look how far we’ve come in such a short span of time!
