Cardi B Hints at New Music Sampling Janet Jackson – Rolling Stone

By Kalia Richardson
As Bardigang eagerly awaits new music, Cardi B teased a potential track from her upcoming album. In an Instagram story posted on Monday, the “WAP” artist sings over Janet Jackson‘s “Funny How Time Flies (When You’re Having Fun),” with the words “Yall like this vibe for CB2?” written across the screen. (CB2 is a placeholder title for her sophomore album.)
“I hope that you on your way/ Crazy ’bout you,” Cardi B sings. “Waiting on you, can’t wait to sit on that face/ Focused on you.”
The single from Janet Jackson’s third studio album Control has been sampled by a number of artists, including jazz artist Stanley Clarke, hip-hop group The Lost Boyz, R&B singer and songwriter Tinashe, and R&B trio SWV.
Cardi B has hinted at a follow-up to her debut album Invasion of Privacy before, sharing an Instagram video in March promising the long-awaited album. She retracted her statement months later after a heated exchange with fans, writing on X, “This is a big accomplishment for me, and of course here comes Bardigang complaining like Deum I can’t celebrate shit,” she wrote in a now deleted tweet, adding, “Anyway NO album this year I don’t care I’m relaxing.” Soon after; however, Cardi B’s rep confirmed with Rolling Stone that she will release an album in 2024.

Most recently, Cardi B was featured on Rolling Stone’s March cover star Peso Pluma’s album Éxodo and in a remix to Glorilla’s “Wanna Be” with Megan Thee Stallion. When it comes to releasing new projects, Cardi B told Rolling Stone in May that she makes music that reflects her mood. “I might be mad with my man, so it’s like now I want to do this song,” she said. “But then I want to do a pop record. I want to do my sing-y shit.” Because she’s highly critical of her image and sound, she told Rolling Stone that a harsh critique from a TikTok user made her cry.
“I take my music so fucking seriously that that’s why I don’t put it out,” she said. “Because if it’s not perfect to my ear, if every fucking word doesn’t sound like it’s pronounced right, if the beat is overpowering the words or the words is overpowering the beat, I don’t want to put it out.”
