Lil’ Kim was born Kimberly Denise Jones on July 11, 1974, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. She has one older brother, Christopher.
When Kim was nine years old, her parents, Linwood and Ruby Jones, separated, and she was then raised by her father. They had a complicated relationship, and Kim was eventually kicked out of the house. She then dropped out of high school and started living on the streets.
This was when teenage Kim met Christopher Wallace—or The Notorious B.I.G. The rap legend became a key figure in her career and they also had a romantic relationship.
