Taylor Swift name-dropped Charlie Puth in a song featured on her her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” last month, and he finally reacted — with a song of his own.
“My new song HERO is about when you see someone you love hurting themselves, ruining the things in their life that are good, but you just can’t save them,” Puth, 32, told his Instagram followers Tuesday.
He called the release “one of the hardest songs” he’s ever written.
“I wrote it hoping that you’ve gone through something similar in your life, and that it can fill in the BLANK for you like it did for me,” he continued. “I’m very excited to share my next album with you, especially this song because it’s a great representation of what’s to come.”
While noting that he has “never put out a song like this before,” he gave Swift, 34, a shoutout.
“It’s very different for me, but I want to thank @taylorswift for letting me know musically that I just couldn’t keep this on my hard drive any longer,” Puth gushed. “HERO is yours on May 24th and this is the single artwork.”

He concluded, “Thank you to all of my fans- you’ll never know how much you mean to me.”
Swift has yet to publicly respond to Puth’s news.
The pop star released her 11th album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” on April 19, and the record’s titular track references Puth.
“We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist,” she sings.
Puth subtly responded to the lyrics at the time by re-posting a photo of Swift’s to his Story, in which she referenced the track.
The song, overall, is believed to be about her relationship with ex Matty Healy.
The 1975 frontman, 35, wasn’t the only one of Swift’s boyfriends seemingly mentioned on the album, with “So Long, London” allegedly being about Joe Alwyn.
Swift also appeared to sing about her current partner, Travis Kelce, in “The Alchemy” and “So High School.”
She has been dating the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, since last summer.
