Why Taylor Swift will miss the Met Gala after fans hoped she'd attend with Travis Kelce – Evening Standard

Showbiz
Taylor Swift will not attend the 2024 Met Gala alongside boyfriend Travis Kelce, despite hopes from fans.
Despite earlier reports suggesting her attendance, People have confirmed the singer will be dedicating her time to rehearsals and tour preparations for her upcoming Eras Tour dates resuming on May 9 in Paris.
With tour stops scheduled throughout Europe in the spring and summer, attending the Met Gala on May 6 would have been a logistical challenge for the 34-year-old musician.
Previously TMZ reported that Swift and her Kansas City Chiefs boyfriend would not be attending this year’s Met Gala.
Swift has attended the glamorous event six times previously, with her most recent appearance being in 2016, while Kelce has yet to make his debut at the star-studded soiree.
Despite Swift’s absence, the Met Gala promises to attract all the heavyweights of fashion with this year’s theme centred on the Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion exhibit.
The Met’s exhibition will be centred around 250 “historically significant and aesthetically beautiful” items from 400 years of fashion, all of which are far too fragile ever to be worn again.
Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, describes it as an homage to nature and the emotional essence of fashion.
The dress code, themed The Garden of Time, draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name and focuses on “fleeting beauty”, pointing guests towards florals for inspiration.
The co-chairs for the 2024 Met Gala have been announced as Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny, as well as the Met’s reigning Crown Princess herself, Zendaya.
Elsewhere, Swift has enjoyed tremendous success after dropping her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department on April 19.

Once again she has dominated the Billboard chart, with her album garnering an impressive one billion Spotify streams within a week.
She kicks off the European leg of her Eras Tour next month and will visit London for two seperate residencies, 21, 22 & 23 June and 15, 16, 17, 19 & 20 August.
The Standard has contacted Taylor Swift’s reps for comment.
