New Joker: Folie à Deux images tease the Elseworlds movie, revealing a fresh look at Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn.
Joker: Folie à Deux photos reveal new looks at Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga's debut as Harley Quinn. The Joker sequel is an Elseworlds movie, which means it exists outside the new DC Universe's canon. By bringing in Gaga as Harley Quinn, Joker: Folie à Deux's cast is shaping up to deliver another all-star performance in the 2024 movie.
On Instagram, Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips shared two new images from the movie to celebrate the holiday season.
The first image shows how Joker: Folie à Deux's plot continues from where the first movie left off, with Arthur Fleck inside his cell in Arkham. The second image features both the Joker and Harley Quinn, with Gaga's character wistfully looking at the Clown Prince of Crime, teasing their twisted relationship in the 2024 DC film.
Not many official details have been revealed about Joker: Folie à Deux's story; however, the movie's main change from the original Joker was announced before the sequel went into production. Joker: Folie à Deux will be a musical. That is a first for comic book movies, and given how dark and realistic the first movie in the franchise was, it will be interesting to see just how the musical element will impact the sequel's tone.
As Joker: Folie à Deux is a musical, it makes sense that Gaga was cast to play Harley Quinn in the movie. The DC newcomer is one of the world's best actresses and singers, which should help with the franchise's bold new direction. Based on that and the movie's title, Harley should play a major role in the sequel.
Joker: Folie à Deux set photos and videos have shown Harley dancing like the Joker did in the first movie, in the same exact steps, teasing that she will go through the journey that Phoenix's character went through in the original film. The set reveals also included a chase sequence featuring three Jokers — likely Arthur imagining the other two — Arkham State Hospital on fire, nods to Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, and more. With its musical flair, all the excitement revealed from the set photos and videos, and Gaga's casting as Harley Quinn, Joker: Folie à Deux is shaping up to be quite the spectacle.
