It's time to go back to Forest Hills High School because a John Tucker Must Die sequel is in the works.
According to Sophia Bush, Arielle Kebbel and Jesse Metcalfe — three of the stars from the original film — a script has been written for a sequel, nearly 18 years after the first film debuted in theaters.
During a recent panel at a Chicago fan expo, the trio of actors addressed rumors and hopes of a sequel, which is when the 45-year-old Desperate Housewives alum divulged that a new movie is in the early stages.
"I've heard rumors of this script — there's a script," Metcalfe told fans in a video posted to TikTok. "Apparently, it's amazing."
He added that while he has not read the script, he would "definitely love to be a part of it."
The original film was released in 2006 and also starred Ashanti, Penn Badgley and Brittany Snow. The movie follows three teenage girls — Heather (Ashanti), Beth (Bush) and Carrie (Kebbel) — who discover they are all dating the same guy, John Tucker (Metcalfe). To get back at him, the three teens team up with the school's new girl, Kate (Snow), to embarrass him publicly for cheating on all of them. Badgley plays Scott Tucker, the nerdy and lovable brother of Metcalfe's character.
After Metcalfe confirmed to those in attendance on Sunday that there are, in fact, plans in place to bring the cast back together for another movie, Kebbel, 39, chimed in and shared that she had read the script and that it "does involve all of the OG cast."
She added that Metcalfe's devious character "may or may not get a chance to change," and that it could be "very exciting."
"Do I get a chance to wear a thong again?" Metcalfe responded, referencing an iconic scene from the original movie in which his character manages to make guys wearing thongs seem cool, much to the dismay of the ladies who were trying to humiliate him.
"We wanted to talk to you about that," joked Kebbel in response. "We were thinking you'd actually, like, make your own brand, endorse it. It'd be a whole thing."
"I'm here for it. I can't wait to unleash this dad bod on the big screen," Metcalfe retorted.
In the comments of the video, hundreds of excited viewers shared their elation at the news and their hope that the sequel is greenlit and that all of the original cast members return.
"Screaming crying throwing up," wrote one excited fan.
"Best movie ever 😭," another shared.
