Lady Gaga is setting the record straight about her relationship with Bradley Cooper.
During an appearance Wednesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the now Oscar-winning singer addressed the romance rumors surrounding her “A Star Is Born” co-star and director, Bradley Cooper, following their emotional duet of “Shallow” at Sunday’s Academy Awards.
“First of all, social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the internet,” began Gaga, who is newly single after her split from fiancé Christian Carino. “What it has done to pop culture is abysmal. And yes, people saw love, and guess what, that’s what we wanted you to see.”
Gaga, 32, and Cooper, 44, took the stage together inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where they performed this year’s winner for Best Original Song. The show-stopping and steamy performance turned up chatter online, especially since Cooper’s girlfriend, Irina Shayk, was in the audience.
“This is a love song, ‘Shallow,’ the movie, ‘A Star Is Born, is a love story. We worked so hard, we worked all week on that performance,” she said, adding that Cooper was the mastermind behind the scenes.
“Everything you saw, the way that they pushed the piano out, you saw them put the piano together, and us walk up on stage, no intro, that was all him,” Gaga said of Cooper.
As for the duo’s chemistry, Gaga noted, “It was important to both of us that we were connected the entire time.”
“I’ve had my arms wrapped around Tony Bennett for three years touring the world. When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel,” she explained.
