Taylor Swift has a lot going on at the moment. She’s promoting one single from her latest album, touring the world, releasing her historic concert film to streaming, and preparing to begin a new era. As her current single rises to important new heights, it’s likely about to be outdone in only a matter of weeks.
“Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]” lifts to a new peak on at least three Billboard charts this week. The tune is picking up steam at radio, months after it was first released as a single, and it’s become a smash for Swift.
This week, “Is It Over Now?” lifts to No. 1 on a pair of Billboard’s radio rankings. The tune jumps from third place to first on both the Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay tallies. The single reaches the highest rung for the first time on both of those rosters.
At the same time, “Is It Over Now?” is also up on the all-genre Radio Songs chart. On that tally, the single pushes to No. 3, its best showing yet.
“Is It Over Now?” is hotter than ever–at least on the radio charts–but its reign might not last very long. In a little over a month, Swift will drop her new album The Tortured Poets Department. At that point, it’s likely that every song not featured on that full-length that’s still present on the Billboard charts will begin to decline, as interest will shift from the old to the new.
Swift hasn’t announced yet whether she’ll release a single from The Tortured Poets Department before the album drops in full or not. If she chooses to do so, the song will almost certainly become a huge hit right out of the gate. The unannounced single will be a quick win on the Hot 100, and radio DJs will be eager to put it into rotation. That focus will likely mean that “Is It Over Now?” may begin its decline, if it hasn’t already by that point.
Even if Swift doesn’t share a single ahead of The Tortured Poets Department, when the album is unleashed, it will produce many hits at once. It may take a few weeks, but there’s a good chance that the set will produce a big radio win. Whether “Is It Over Now?” is still riding high in a month or two is yet to be seen, but it’s good that the track is peaking now, before it has to compete with even newer cuts from the same superstar.
