Post Malone and Taylor Swift became much better friends this year as they scored their first hit song together. “Fortnight,” which fronted her new album and credited Malone as a featured artist, became a huge smash upon its arrival. Now, just weeks later, he has matched one of her all-time most impressive accomplishments on the charts in the U.S.
“I Had Some Help” by Malone and country superstar Morgan Wallen hits No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart this week. The single jumps from the runner-up rung to the top spot and becomes the most successful song on the airwaves in the U.S. for the first time after a rapid ascent.
At the same time, the smash is also ruling the Country Airplay chart, which looks only at the biggest tracks on country radio. Only a very small number of titles have managed to rule both rankings. According to Billboard, just six tracks have done so, and Malone and Wallen are now included in this historic grouping.
Malone and Wallen are now the seventh and eighth musicians to dominate both the Radio Songs and Country Airplay tallies with the same hit. They join Taylor Swift, Lady A (formerly known as Lady Antebellum), Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line, Gabby Barrett, and Luke Combs.
The latter musician was the most recent addition to this exclusive club, until this week. Combs’ remake of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” hit No. 1 on both tallies just last year. Swift was the first artist to accomplish the feat, as her single “You Belong With Me” sang its way to the summit on the two rankings in 2009.
“I Had Some Help” does manage to beat the other five tracks that have made history in this fashion. The single only needed eight weeks to rise to No. 1 on the Radio Songs and Country Airplay charts. That’s the fastest climb to the throne on the two rosters, and it’s the only track that needed single-digit frames to rule.
While Wallen and Malone are riding high with “I Had Some Help,” both musicians have already moved on. Malone has shifted his focus to his single “Pour Me a Drink” with Blake Shelton, which debuts on several Billboard charts this week–though not as high as his previous country cut. Wallen, meanwhile, just recently delivered his new cut “Lies Lies Lies,” which is likely headed for a healthy start on the lists next frame.
