With the cheapest nosebleed seats starting at more than $2,000, the U.S. Taylor Swift ticket market for the “Eras Tour” is looking pretty unrealistic for many state-side Swifties. This is causing fans to flock overseas, where resale prices are significantly lower, in what is referred to as “gig tripping.”
According to a report from Skyscanner, "44% of U.S. travelers are willing to fly short-haul to see their favorite artists, and 18% would go the extra mile with long-haul flights.”
Those numbers are backed up by United Airlines, who told CNN that flights to Lisbon, Portugal, where Swift performed on May 24 and 25, were up 25% compared to last summer.
However, the biggest surge has yet to come, with a 45% increase in passengers on United’s flights to Milan and Munich compared to last summer. Swift will be performing in both cities.
It isn’t just travel that’s affected, but the entire global economy in what has been dubbed Swiftonomics. A report from Barclays estimated that more than one million fans would attend Swift’s 15 UK concerts, each spending a predicted £848 ($1,080) in total expenses.
This weekend, Swift will perform at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, Netherlands, for three consecutive nights, Thursday, July 4 through Saturday, July 6 and U.S. fans may want to consider making the last-minute trip with how much cheaper tickets are compared to her U.S. dates.
At the time of publication, the cheapest tickets to her July 4 “Eras Tour” concert in Amsterdam are $146 on StubHub, $258 on Vivid Seats and $281 on TicketCity.
The cheapest tickets to her July 5 “Eras Tour” concert in Amsterdam are $147 on StubHub, $400 on Vivid Seats and $440 on TicketCity — the most expensive out of the three dates.
Finally, the cheapest tickets to her July 6 “Eras Tour” concert in Amsterdam are $198 on StubHub, $320 on Vivid Seats and $351 on TicketCity.
All prices listed are before fees and are subject to change.
Of course, international travel isn’t a cost-effective solution for everyone. If you’re still eyeing “Eras Tour” tickets for Swift’s U.S. dates, check out the cheapest tickets available for every U.S. tour stop.
