Sean “Diddy” Combs has been dealt a major blow after being dropped by the Manhattan law firm Grubman, Shire, Meiselas, and Sacks.
The law firm allegedly made the move after popstar and actress Lady Gaga threatened to leave.
According to reports, Lady Gaga gave the firm an ultimatum to make the decision, and they ultimately chose to side with her over Diddy because she was “too big to lose.”
A source revealed to NewsNation that the law firm Grubman, Shire, Meiselas, and Sacks dropped Diddy as one of their clients.
The legal firm represented the embattled mogul for over 20 years, meaning they were already working with him when he changed his stage name from “Puff Daddy” to “P. Diddy” in 2001.
Despite their longstanding partnership, it is believed that they had no choice but to terminate it due to an ultimatum from another client, singer Lady Gaga.
Diddy’s close relationship with Allen Grubman, one of the named partners, couldn’t even stop the axe from falling.
“Lady Gaga said she was leaving [the firm] if they didn’t drop Diddy,” said the insider, adding that the firm felt “she’s too big to lose” and that her exit would trigger other celebs to pull a similar move.
The legal firm hasn’t been the only one to have cut ties with Diddy in recent months. Shortly after the record label owner was hit with multiple sexual assault accusations from different women late last year, a number of Black-owned businesses severed their relationship with Diddy’s e-commerce platform, Empower Global.
Nuudii System, one of the brands that did so, had its CEO, Annette Azan, give a statement to People magazine announcing the decision.
“We pulled Nuudii System off of Empower Global as soon as we heard the news of the allegations against Sean Puffy Combs,” said the shapewear and undergarment mogul. “We are a women’s brand. We believe women and stand in support of them. There’s nothing f-cking empowering in the mistreatment of women!”
House of Takura also released a statement at the time saying they take “the allegations against Mr. Combs very seriously and finds such behavior abhorrent and intolerable.”
They added, “We do not at all condone any of Mr. Combs’ alleged actions. We believe in victims’ rights and support victims in speaking their truth even against the most powerful of people.”
Apart from losing possible revenue, Diddy’s social standing has also taken a heavy hit.
Earlier in the month, Mayor Adams revoked Diddy’s key to NYC in the wake of a viral video of the rapper brutalizing his ex, Cassie, in the hallway of a hotel.
“I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence,” Adams wrote in a letter to Diddy requesting the return of the key, per New York Post.
He added, “Our city has worked tirelessly to make sure survivors are heard and seen by our administration.”
Similarly, Howard University revoked the honorary degree they “conferred” upon him in 2014 in a unanimous decision made by its board of trustees.
They also made sure to cut all ties with him by terminating a “2016 gift agreement with Mr. Combs, disband the scholarship program in his name, return his $1 million contribution, and terminate a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.”
The month of June also saw Diddy erase all photos and videos on his Instagram page, including an apology he made to Cassie for assaulting her.
Various speculations then arose, suggesting the move might be connected to Cassie. However, at the time, insiders told TMZ that the act was not intended as a “dig” at his ex-girlfriend, as he deleted not only the apology but all of his other posts as well.
They also noted that Diddy has purged his Instagram page in the past, hinting that this recent action shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Since the surprising development, the rapper has not posted anything on his page, although posts he was tagged in can still be seen.
In his now-deleted apology video, the rapper stated that he was taking “full responsibility” for his actions in the unearthed surveillance footage. Diddy noted that he felt “disgusted” by what he did and that he sought therapy and entered rehab after the incident.
The rapper said, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that. I was f-cked up. I mean, I hit rock bottom — but I make no excuses. My behavior [in] that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it; I’m disgusted now.”
He continued, “I went, and I sought out professional help. Had to go into therapy. Had to go into rehab. Had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to [being] a better man each and every day. And I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”
