Here’s what a source said about Swift seeing a “different side” of Alwyn.
Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn had a quiet and private relationship. The actor and the pop star didn’t talk about each other much in the media, often stating that they wanted to keep their romance away from their careers. Unfortunately, Swift’s fame might’ve been too much for Alwyn to handle. The couple went their separate ways in April 2023. Swift then moved on with Travis Kelce in October 2023.
Alwyn spoke to The Sunday Times in June 2024, and the topic of Swift came up. “I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years,” he said. “That is a hard thing to navigate.”
Alwyn added that the media coverage of the split was “dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition.” He noted that there is “always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said.”
An insider told Life & Style that Alwyn wanted to “set the record straight” during his 2024 interview. “He had a good run with Taylor, but they’ve both moved on, and he has no desire to rehash their past,” the source claimed. “He spoke up because not every song that mentions London or alludes to an ex is about him, which is why he said something.”
The source noted that Swift “was definitely shocked Joe commented since he’s super private and never wanted to do anything too public when they were together.”
“It’s a different side of Joe that Taylor has never seen, but she respects that he wanted to clear the air,” they added.

A source told People that the “differences in their personalities” ultimately led to the split.
“They had plenty in common and fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during Reputation,” the source said of Swift’s 2017 album. “Then the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way. But he didn’t really ‘know’ her yet outside of that bubble.”
“Joe has struggled with Taylor’s level of fame and the attention from the public,” the source continued. “The differences in their personalities have also become harder to ignore after years together. They’ve grown apart.”
Joe Alwyn didn’t want a public relationship with Taylor Swift — but Travis Kelce doesn’t mind.
“You want to keep things private, but at the same time, I’m not here to hide anything,” Kelce said on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. “That’s my girl, you know what I mean? That’s my lady. So, it’s like, I’m proud of that. I’m not sitting here trying to juggle, like, ‘How can I keep this under wraps,’ you know what I mean? We just don’t want to let everybody into your personal life and be able to comment on it knowing that everything she does is getting a headline.”
