As I started writing this, I typed out “Lady Cooper.” That was a sobering moment, guys. And it’s time I admit my problem. My name is Jennifer Berry and I am way too invested in the lives—and fictional romance—of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
For all the other Bradly Cooper and Lady Gaga stans (and I know you’re out there, creating fanfic and re-watching clips of them promoting their film A Star Is Born together—it totally looked like they were about to kiss at the Venice Film Festival though, right? RIGHT?!—and clicking longingly through roundups of their sweetest moments), I have some devastating news. Gaga and B-Coops are not secretly dating. They are not low-key lovers. They are not surreptitiously engaged and going to one day drop a “Surprise, we’re married!” on us. They are in long-term relationships with other humans.
And it’s not like we didn’t already know this—Lady Gaga’s been with Hollywood talent agent Christian Carino since February 2017, and Cooper’s been dating Irina Shayk, with whom he has a 17-month-old child, since 2015—it’s just that Gaga confirming this fact by speaking publicly about her fiancé at Elle‘s Women in Hollywood event for the first time has driven the final nail into the Gooper coffin. (Yes, that’s my Gaga + Cooper celebrity portmanteau.)
Watch part of Lady Gaga’s POWERFUL speech at ELLE’s Women in Hollywood as she opened up about her sexual assault, mental illness, and a plea for women to lift up each other up.

Still in denial? Please bear witness to these loving looks between the real-life couples:
Womp womp.
I like to think my hope about them being a couple IRL has more to do with the power of their connection, chemistry and acting skills in the film than simply my longstanding interest in the lives of celebrities (sue me). Because, in case you’re one of the two people on planet Earth who hasn’t seen A Star Is Born yet, the movie is good. Like, start softly weeping weeks later upon hearing the first chords of Shallow, good. You laugh, you cry, you stan, and then a week later, without warning, in the shower, you cry some more. It’s a whole journey. And one I’m pretty sure it’s one that’s going to send Gaga and/or Coops all the way to the Oscars podium with at least one win of many nominations.
So there you have it. As much as I worship them as a couple (#AllyandJackForever), they simply are not one in real life and we (read: I) have to, as loyal fans, respect their *actual* relationships. But that doesn’t mean that come Oscar season we won’t be waiting, watching, softly weeping.

In sports, there’s an entire universe around the court, the field, the rink: the constellation of storytelling, narratives and public perception. Ellen Hyslop, Jacie deHoop and Roslyn McLarty recognized that early: The Toronto trio started sports media brand The Gist back in 2017 as a community space for women athletes and fans to get into the game together. Since then, the company has disrupted the traditional sports media playbook while growing into a 25-person, multi-million-dollar…
