NEW YORK, NEW YORK – MAY 06: Cardi B attends Cardi B’s Gala After Party with Revolve And FWRD At … [+]
When two of the biggest stars in a genre of music work together on a new tune, it’s news, and that cut usually goes on to land a sizable debut on the Billboard charts. Then, when another superstar joins them and makes the cut an even bigger deal, the chances that it will rise the ranks are great.
On Friday (May 31), Cardi B jumped on a remix of “Wanna Be” by Megan Thee Stallion and Glorilla. The reworking became a quick sales winner, with many different takes on the cut appearing on iTunes in the U.S. as fans of all three women rush to support the title and make it a hit–again.
At present, nine versions of “Wanna Be” appear inside the top 100 on the U.S. iTunes chart. A tenth sits below the No. 100 mark as well, meaning that followers of the three rappers are buying all available takes.
As of the time of writing, just one version of “Wanna Be” finds space in the top 10 on iTunes in the U.S. It’s the regular remix, and it’s up to a new high of No. 5.
In addition to the normal remix of “Wanna Be” that features Cardi, several slightly altered takes on the single are also available–and selling well. The roundup includes chopped and screwed, extended, and both sped-up and slowed-down versions all finding space on the iTunes ranking of the bestselling tracks in America at present.
The sales of all 10 versions of “Wanna Be” will aid the title in climbing the Billboard charts next week. The company groups all editions of the same title into one entity, so fans buying these 10 updated cuts–as well as the original, which is Cardi-less–are playing an integral role in potentially making the song an even bigger smash.
Last month, “Wanna Be” debuted at No. 11 on the Hot 100. Stallion and Glorilla have been keeping the track going strong on a number of Billboard tallies, including the all-genre list of the most-consumed tunes in the nation. Presently, “Wanna Be” sits at No. 50, falling three spaces in its seventh turn on the ranking.
After the “Wanna Be” remix has enjoyed another seven days of tracking, it’s likely that it will climb on several charts, if not every single one it appears on. Cardi’s presence should be enough to make it a smash once more on plenty of tallies. Whether she’ll be credited or not–artists appearing on remixes earn a chart credit if their version becomes the most popular–is yet to be seen, but she’ll certainly play a big role in the tune’s future success.
