Long story short, 2023 is the year of Taylor Swift. When I found out that a concert film of “The Eras Tour” was heading to Boston, I knew I had to go. Even though I saw the concert live in June, it was such a great show that I just couldn’t stay away from seeing it again.
The film is a cinematic rendering of three of Swift’s Los Angeles shows, and themed attire, friendship bracelets, singing, and dancing were encouraged. As a 13-second countdown started and the movie began, I felt like I was back at Acrisure Stadium watching the history-making tour.
Every song on the standard set list was included, with the exception of a few that were cut to make the run time just under three hours. The elimination of fan favorites “Cardigan” and “The Archer” was surprising to me, but there are no bad Taylor Swift songs so I didn’t have a ton of room to complain.
The film as a whole was absolutely show-stopping, but “Tolerate It” was one of, if not, arguably the top performance. It was one of my favorites to hear live, and seeing the acting abilities of not only Swift but also dancer Raphael Thomas in such high quality in the movie particularly stuck out to me.
The Eras Tour had a historic demand for tickets across stadiums worldwide and broke countless records, but the concert film achieved milestones of its own. Like its stadium counterpart, the film had an unprecedented amount of people trying to purchase tickets.
Not only was the film the highest-grossing domestic concert film ever, but movies such as “Priscilla” and “The Exorcist: Believer” changed their release dates so they wouldn’t compete with Swift. Paramount Pictures and Apple Studios even scrapped a limited run of “Killers of the Flower Moon” starting October 20.
If you were one of the millions of people unable to come across tickets for “The Eras Tour ” in a stadium, you’ll still have a chance to experience it from a concertgoer’s perspective. The concert film will be in theaters around the world for the remainder of 2023.
