Taylor Swift’s European leg of the Eras Tour is in full swing, and American fans are trekking across the Atlantic to see the singer for properly regulated prices. It’s already been determined that Miss Blondie’s fans are organized travelers. If a bar or city is mentioned in a Taylor Swift song, disciples are willing to make the journey to that destination.
The Mastercard Economics Institute dubbed the pop star’s economic impact “The Swift Lift,” which can boost spending at local businesses, hotels, and restaurants during the weekends her tour is in town. That lift isn’t exclusive to the US—during the Australian concert dates, videos on TikTok circulated of Taylor fans flying to one of her concert dates and taking over the plane by singing some of her most popular songs.
Now, the plane takeover is happening in Europe, too. United Airlines shared data with Thrillist that reveals that demand for upcoming tour stops in Lisbon and Madrid has increased by 25%. Even without the data, we can find evidence of Taylor Swift’s jet-setting fans by the number of TikToks that have been posted about making the transcontinental journey.
Based on United Airlines data shared with Thrillist, these are the cities with the biggest spikes in air travel compared to last year for the dates that Taylor Swift will be in each city this year for the Eras Tour:
According to data from Going shared with Thrillist, Milan was one of the cheapest cities to fly to for the Eras tour back in April, and Madrid had some of the cheapest resale tickets—so it isn’t too surprising that they are among the top six routes from United to see an increased number of passengers.
If you plan to see Taylor Swift in concert this summer, make sure you prepare for one of the busiest travel seasons in history. A cruel summer that features lost luggage or missed flights wasn’t the kind Taylor had in mind.
