Taylor Swift is set to rule the Billboard 200 chart again this coming week, as her The Tortured Poets Department remains unbeatable. Billboard has announced that the set will remain at No. 1 for a third consecutive frame when its charts refresh in a few days. This isn’t shocking news, but it does help the singer tie with another one of the biggest stars in the music industry so far this year.
The The Tortured Poets Department is about to earn its third week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. With three frames spent atop the tally, Swift’s latest full-length is tied as the longest-running leader on the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S. so far this year.
Only one other album has spent three weeks at No. 1 in the U.S. in 2024. Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time has already managed the feat, and Swift has now officially caught up.
The Tortured Poets Department spending three frames at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 isn’t a surprise, as it’s far and away the biggest release so far this year. Wallen’s success is different, though, and the fact that it’s managed to continue to perform so well for so long speaks to the incredible popularity and staying power of his most recent project.
One Thing at a Time was released more than a year ago. The fact that it’s still living so close to the summit on the Billboard 200—and occasionally taking turns running the show after so much time has passed—is notable.
The last time that One Thing at a Time ruled the Billboard 200 was back in mid-March. The set has now spent a total of 19 weeks at No. 1 on the tally, and even when it’s not sitting on top, it’s never too far from the throne. During especially quiet weeks—such as in March—it’s able to rise back to the summit with relatively small consumption numbers.
In its third week of availability, The Tortured Poets Department moved another 282,000 equivalent units. That’s but a fraction of the 2.61 million equivalent units it managed when it first arrived, but it is also easily enough to keep Swift at No. 1 this time around.
