Cardi B and Sha’Carri Richardson Talk Olympics Over Manicures in New Ad – Rolling Stone

By Mankaprr Conteh
Two stars known for elaborate nail art link up over manicures in a new promotion for this summer’s Olympics in Paris from NBC. In it, Olympic Track and Field hopeful Sha’Carri Richardson and rap supernova Cardi B talk about their respective work routines and look ahead to the Games. “I’ve been dying to meet you,” Cardi tells Richardson.
Last summer, Richardson earned the “The World’s Fastest Woman” title at the World Athletic Track and Field Championship for her 100-meter sprint win. She’s poised to run for Team USA in multiple events in Paris, pending her performance at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June. She was expected to run in the Covid-delayed Tokyo Games in 2021 after a qualifying win in the trials, but was suspended from the Olympic team over a positive test for THC. She said she had consumed the drug legally, in Oregon, after learning of her mother’s death from a reporter.
“I have no plans of letting life, adversity, any obstacles stop me from being in Paris,” Richardson tells Cardi B, who asks how she’s been preparing. She compares her training schedule to a corporate 9-to-5.

“I’m trying to punish myself,” Cardi says about her own recent work life, adding that she’s avoiding beauty rituals like getting her hair and eyebrows done so she stays on the job and focused while finishing her long-awaited sophomore album. Since March, she’s released two singles, “Like What (Freestyle)” and “Enough (Miami).” She’s said her follow-up to 2018’s Platinum Invasion of Privacy will drop before the end of the year

Cardi B also tells Richardson that Paris is one of her favorite cities and that she’ll plan to attend the Games. “I will come just for you… and shopping,” she says. The Olympics are scheduled for July 26-Aug. 11.
A portion of the video debuted during NBC’s broadcast of the Kentucky Derby on May 5; more clips of their conversation will release throughout the spring. According to NBC, additional conversations between talent and athletes will also premiere in the coming months.
