The Complex Dating History Of Lady Gaga Explained – The List

Lady Gaga is best known for her outlandish style, powerhouse vocals, and, following 2018’s “A Star is Born,” her Oscar-nominated acting talents. When it comes to her personal life, however, the “Bad Romance” hitmaker is surprisingly coy, and rarely discusses details of her dating life publicly. If you’d like to discover more about the singer’s dating history, you’ve come to the right place.
According to Cosmopolitan, Gaga’s first long-term relationship began back in 2005 when she started dating the New York City bar owner and nightclub promoter, Lüc Carl. The Grammy Award-winner began dating Carl before she became one of the world’s biggest pop stars. However, after almost six years of dating on and off, the pair eventually split in 2011.
During a 2009 interview with Rolling Stone, Gaga revealed that she “really never loved anyone like I loved him,” adding that the relationship “really shaped” her. The singer’s 2011 hit “Yoü and I” was released shortly after the pair’s split, and the song is rumored to be about her time with Carl. While on the set of the music video for the song in question, Gaga met the up and coming actor Taylor Kinney, and her next major romance was underway.

According to Elle, Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney kept the early years of their relationship largely out of the public eye. However, the pair made their first public appearance as a couple while attending the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards in 2014. The following year, Kinney proposed to the “Poker Face” singer with a heart-shaped engagement ring on Valentine’s Day 2015.
Sadly, just one year later, the couple ended their engagement and went their separate ways. In a statement on Instagram announcing the break-up, Gaga said, “We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared.”
Per Cosmopolitan, Gaga moved on in 2017 and began dating talent agent Christian Carino. The pair got engaged in October 2018. However, in early 2019, the former couple called it quits. Speaking shortly after the split, a source revealed to Us Weekly that Carino “didn’t treat Gaga very well toward the end of their [two-year] relationship.”
As Elle reported, the Academy Award-winner was spotted with entrepreneur Michael Polansky in late 2019, and, in January 2020, Gaga confirmed the pair were officially an item on Instagram. As of 2021, Gaga and Polansky are still going strong and even attended President Joe Biden’s Inauguration together.
