Inglewood, CA – August 07: Taylor Swift performs during The Eras Tour at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood … [+]
Taylor Swift conquers many Billboard charts this week with her new album The Tortured Poets Department. The set arrives atop the Billboard 200 with one of the largest debuts of all time. Simultaneously, the singer dominates the Hot 100 with dozens of tracks from the project, including a new champion.
Lead The Tortured Poets Department single “Fortnight” launches on the Hot 100 songs chart at No. 1. The tune marks yet another leader for both Swift and featured musician Post Malone, and it helps her make history thanks, in part, to the tune’s high starting point.
“Fortnight” is Swift’s seventh song to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. She’s just the third musician in history to claim that many immediate wins on the tally.
Just a few months ago, Ariana Grande became the first woman to accrue seven No. 1 debuts on the Hot 100. She upped her career total considerably this year, with two new instant champions–both of which come from her most recent album Eternal Sunshine.
In January, Grande kicked off her album campaign with the single “Yes, And?” That tune blasted onto the Hot 100 at No. 1. The week that Eternal Sunshine hit the charts, the second official cut “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” also entered the chart in first place.
The only musician that has claimed more No. 1 starts on the Hot 100 is Drake. He’s scored nine quick rulers, and he may very well soon become the first artist to snag double-digit chart-topping debuts, as he never goes too long before finding his way back to the throne.
Before “Fortnight” hit No. 1, Swift sat alone in third place on the ranking of musicians with the most Hot 100 chart-topping starts, with half a dozen. Currently, BTS is next up, with five instant rulers.
