In mid-April 2024, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ordered Tesla to recall nearly 4,000 of their new Cybertrucks due to issues with sticky accelerator pedals.
“An unapproved change introduced lubricant (soap) to aid in the component assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal. Residual lubricant reduced the retention of the pad to the pedal,” the NHTSA claimed, adding that “when high force is applied to the pad on the accelerator pedal, the pad may dislodge, which may cause the pedal to become trapped in the interior trim above the pedal.”
Yikes!
The recall affects Tesla Cybertrucks manufactured between mid-November 2023 and early April 2024 — likely most (if not all) of the vehicles to hit the streets in the United States since Cybertrucks arrived in November 2023, according to CNN.
The electric vehicle, which costs about $60,990 for a basic model and fits six people, has an estimated range of 250 miles and can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 6.5 seconds. Its top-of-the-line “Cyberbeast” model can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds.

“Lost” and “The Strain” star Kevin Durand — who bears an uncanny resemblance to Tesla boss Elon Musk — waved to a paparazzo before driving his Tesla Cybertruck in Malibu on April 14, 2024.
That same month, Kevin told Gizmodo’s io9 that he’s been mistaken for the tech billionaire several times over the years: “It’s funny because I was one of the very lucky people who got my Cybertruck. I ordered it five years ago. And now, even more than ever, people are like, ‘Oh, my God, it’s Elon!'” he said.
“Elon looks like he’s my brother. My parents are like, ‘Oh my God, this is like your long lost brother,'” he added.
