The Google Drive link made its rounds early this morning, with rabid Swifties sharing the link among themselves on TikTok and reddit. The 17-song list has sparked some major debate between fans who fall into two camps. Some Swifties rapidly dove into the leaks and began critiquing the songs, while others called the first group out for participating in the leak.
“When Taylor left Big Machine, she said she did not like being doubted there. But it was not doubt—they were literally editing her work and selecting the best pieces, leaving filler songs out of her projects. This is why 1989 is so good and why Speak Now is amazing. And that is also why her new music sounds the same. Having ‘yes men’ all around you does not do you wonders. Instead, you release the same synth pop 30 times over,” writes one fan who listened to the leaks.
“The funniest thing about this album is Swifties spending hours scouring the internet for crazy deep poetic clues that could relate to the album and then the album just ended up being unhinged ramblings about Matty Healy,” writes another. “I do not understand the aesthetic of this album it does not connect to any of the music at all,” says another.
So is the leak legit? Are fans right about the devotion to former boyfriend Matty Healy? Who knows—you’ll have to find out tomorrow when The Tortured Poets Department officially drops.
