Inglewood, CA – August 07: Taylor Swift performs during The Eras Tour at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood … [+]
The first weekend of Coachella 2024 is almost over, and as usual, the event has produced plenty of fodder for entertainment media outlets. With so many stars–both on the stage and in the crowd–there’s a lot to talk about. Somehow, despite not performing at all, Taylor Swift has still managed to steal the show and become one of the most-talked-about topics from this year’s festival.
Swift appeared at Coachella, but she didn’t perform. Not even a guest spot, which some fans were hoping for when rumors began spreading that she’d attend. Instead, the pop superstar was spotted taking in several performances, especially from some of her famous friends.
Joining Swift at various stages at Coachella was her boyfriend. Football superstar Travis Kelce was on hand–and holding hands–for the show, and the two seemed to have a great time together.
Swift was seen backstage at least once, but she also braved the crowds to experience Coachella as it’s meant to be: in a throng of thousands of music lovers. She and Kelce were snapped in the audience for electronic music producer Dom Dolla, bopping along to his signature sound.
The chart champion also turned out to see Bleachers, the band fronted by her friend and longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff. The two have worked together on countless hits, and they share many Grammys together, including more than one Album of the Year prize.
Swift was seemingly also present for Ice Spice’s performance as well. The rapper called out the singer, who once invited her to join her on the remix of her single “Karma,” which quickly gave the rising talent her highest-charting hit on the Hot 100. Swift didn’t join her on stage, but Spice seemed thrilled she was there at all.
The coverage of Swift and Kelce appearing at Coachella has outshined some of the performances, even from well-known musicians. Lana Del Rey’s headlining set on Friday has seemingly not garnered nearly as much attention–but that may be due to the fact that Swift wasn’t there to support that friend. Even No Doubt bringing out Olivia Rodrigo has apparently been written about with less vigor than Swift merely taking in a concert.
Swift’s ability to blend in and wander through the crowds at Coachella is amazing, and unexpected. The media coverage of her every move–including this article–is not as shocking, though it’s impressive how she can come away as the most-talked-about artist at a music festival, even though she never performed.
