Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn cultivate a chaotic love story that begins in Arkham Asylum.
The trailer for one of the year’s most anticipated films has landed. Due out October 4th, Joker: Folie à Deux follows the Oscar-winning 2019 effort and sees the return of Joaquin Phoenix as the convincingly tormented Arthur Fleck. With director Todd Phillips at the helm, the sequel also introduces multi-talent Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in what is being coined as a “jukebox musical” – featuring several well-known songs as the soundtrack throughout the film.
In the first reveal of the film, the teaser depicts a twisted love tale – one that finds Quinn and Fleck connecting while housed in the Arkham Asylum. With flashes of ballroom dancing and piano performances, contrast with running through Gotham city streets amid fire and mayhem – it can be assumed that the pair commit to chaos together in what amounts to a love story unlike most.
However, given what has already been portrayed from Fleck in the first film, and his continued spiral into madness, it remains to be seen whether the events are all real or if this is all just part of his very vivid and wondering imagination. One thing is for sure – Phoenix was born to play this role and the addition of Gaga as Quinn is a stroke of genius that becomes very apparent in just the couple of minutes of the teaser trailer – this is DC’s version of Sid and Nancy and we can’t wait.
Joker: Folie à Deux arrives October 4th in theaters. See the trailer below.
