Alert! Alert! A preview of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn is finally available to us, and I’m completely obsessed. The wardrobe. The glam. The VOICE. It feels inadequate to say Mother is Mothering. This legendary pop queen is fully in her movie star era once again — JOKER 2: Folie à Deux premieres on October 4, 2024. Yes, we somehow have to wait six whole months for this, but at least we can watch the trailer on repeat until then. Lady Gaga stars as the iconic DC henchwoman character, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, who’s returning to his role as the Joker.
Naturally, the Joker crew wanted to utilize the Grammy winner’s talents, so the second film is a musical. (Just a fair warning, so you don’t experience the same shock that you did when you went to see the new Mean Girls.) Miss Gaga has been teasing new music on social media recently, and Little Monsters everywhere have been wondering if the tunes are Joker-related. Thank goodness we’re finally getting some answers. Let’s channel our Gaga stanhood and excitement for this movie into overanalyzing the trailer, shall we?

The trailer dropped at 9 pm EST on April 9 and the crowd went wild. It’s obvious the theaters will be filled with both hardcore DC fans and Little Monsters. The common denominator is that both will 100% be in pigtails.

The queen has been promising new tunes for a while, and personally, I am ready for some. Stat. It turns out Joker is mostly a jukebox musical, which means the majority of the songs will be covers. BUT Lady Gaga’s writing her own originals too. She recently took to Instagram to share an adorable selfie and update fans. “I feel like my heart is bursting with gratitude for my own health and MUSIC—I am writing some of my best music in as long as I can remember,” she wrote in her caption. AAHHH.
The singer continued: “Thank you thank you thank you for loving me the way you do and for having such a real love for my songs—I’ve been writing ❤️pop songs since I was a little girl I can’t believe I still get to do what I love.” Please never stop, girlie.
