The trailer for Joker 2, titled Joker: Folie à Deux has dropped.
The film sees Joaquin Phoenix return to his Oscar-winning role as the Joker, with Lady Gaga joining the cast as Harley Quinn. Check it out:
2019’s Joker was always going to be big, but no one could have predicted the cultural event it ended up being.

The film made more than a billion worldwide, was nominated for 12 Oscars, and won a further award for Best Original Score in addition to Phoenix’s gong for Lead Actor.
The sequel will see Gaga introduced as Joker’s iconic paramour, Harley Quinn.
Whilst she is taking over the role from another top-level actor in Margot Robbie, Gaga’s specific talents make her perfectly suited to the role in Joker 2.
The reason?

Joker 2 is set to be a jukebox musical, as confirmed by the trailer, meaning Gaga’s addition makes perfect sense as arguably the most talented musician-turned-actor in the industry.
Variety, who initially broke the news that the film would be a jukebox musical, said:
“Insiders privy to filming and early versions of Todd Phillips’ eagerly awaited sequel to Joker tell Variety the movie leans heavily towards being ‘mostly a jukebox musical,’ as it integrates at least 15 reinterpretations of 'very well-known' songs.

“One is said to be 'That’s Entertainment' from the 1953 musical 'The Band Wagon,' famously associated with Judy Garland.”
Fans are hyped after the trailer. One fan responded on X (formerly known as Twitter), saying: "This trailer is everything and more that we were hoping for. CANT WAIT!
Another added about Phoenix and Lady Gaga: "They are soo crazily good together. Brilliant performance. Now just can’t wait to watch the movie."
Todd Phillips, who directed The Hangover and War Dogs prior to Joker, is set to return to direct the second film.
As well as Gaga and Phoenix, Zazie Beetz will return from the first film, and will be joined by Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Ken Leung, and Steve Coogan.

Speaking at Cinemacon, director Todd Phillips said 'Joker 2 is a movie where music is an essential element, but doesn't veer too far from the first film' according to DiscussingFilm.
The trailer confirms the musical element of the film, but seems to indicate it will all be taking place in the shared minds of Joker and Harley.
The subtitle Folie à Deux is a common term for when two people have a common or shared delusion, something that will clearly play a huge role in the film.
Releasing October 4, I think we can all agree, after that trailer it can’t come soon enough.
