Future and Metro Boomin dominate the Billboard charts this week. The pair’s collaborative album We Don’t Trust You launches atop the Billboard 200 with the largest starting sum of 2024, while at the same time, every song featured on the set finds its way to the Hot 100. Many of those tracks enter inside the loftiest space on the list, and that immediate welcoming helps the men behind these cuts make history.
Five songs from We Don’t Trust You debut inside the top 10 on the Hot 100, giving them control over half of all the spaces in the region. Future and Boomin fill all the following spots between Nos. 1 and 10 this week: No. 1, “Like That” with Kendrick Lamar; No. 2, “Type Shit” with Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, No. 6, “Cinderella” with Travis Scott, No. 8, “We Don’t Trust You” and No. 9, “Young Metro” with The Weeknd.
Future and Boomin are now the sixth and seventh musicians in U.S. history to occupy at least five spaces inside the top 10 on the Hot 100 at one time, according to Billboard. They’re in some pretty incredible company, as this trend started in the earliest days of the Billboard charts, and it’s become more and more popular for top stars to fill many rungs inside the tier in a single week.
The first musical act to claim half of the top 10 on the Hot 100 was The Beatles. They managed the feat twice in 1964, and it would be many decades before their accomplishment was matched–and then beaten.
Taylor Swift owns the record for claiming the most real estate inside the top 10 on the Hot 100 at one time. In late 2022, she became the first musician to own the entire highest tier for herself. When her album Midnights launched atop the Billboard 200, 10 tracks from the set–which were all brand new–filled positions one through 10 on the roster.
Drake has occupied at least half of the spots in the top 10 on the Hot 100 more times than anyone else. He’s managed the showing on four separate occasions. One time, he even dominated nine spaces on the ranking, almost becoming the first act to control the entire top 10–though he was beaten to that bit of history by Swift.
Three other musicians have claimed half of the top 10 for themselves in the past. Morgan Wallen, Juice WRLD, and 21 Savage have all accomplished this tricky task. Others have come close, but they have yet to join this club.
