LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – OCTOBER 11: (L-R) Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Taylor Swift attend the … [+]
Beyoncé is gearing up to release her first country album, Cowboy Carter, later this month. The set is off to a fantastic start, thanks to its lead single “Texas Hold ‘Em,” which is still gaining ground on a number of Billboard charts. The country cut is quickly becoming a radio smash, and now it’s helped Queen Bey break out of a tie with one of the most successful country artists–of any genre, really–of all time.
“Texas Hold ‘Em” climbs on this week’s edition of the Radio Songs chart, which tracks the most successful tunes across all radio stations in the U.S. The tune improves from No. 12 to No. 10—a new high point for the cut.
As “Texas Hold ‘Em” breaks into the top 10, it becomes Beyoncé’s twenty-first career placement inside the competitive region on the Radio Songs chart–at least on her own. The superstar is now tied with Justin Bieber for the fourth-most appearances between Nos. 1 and 10 in history, according to Billboard, as both have pushed 21 different singles into the arena.
Looking at all acts, Rihanna owns the record for the most top 10s ever on the Radio Songs chart. The Barbadian pop star and makeup mogul became the first artist to hit 30 top 10 smashes on the radio ranking years ago.
Drake is in a somewhat distant second place, as the Canadian rapper has accrued 24 top 10s on the Radio Songs chart. Mariah Carey is just one win behind him, as she’s landed 23 top 10s.
Before this week, Beyoncé was tied with two other superstars for the fifth-most top 10s, but now the order has changed thanks to her new hit and her ascension on this list. When “Texas Hold ‘Em” still sat at No. 12, Beyoncé was on the same level as both Taylor Swift and Lil Wayne. Those two artists have collected 20 top 10s on the Radio Songs chart.
Radio is playing catch-up when it comes to “Texas Hold ‘Em,” as it’s already become a big hit across many other metrics. The tune debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100 a month ago, and then climbed to the No. 1 spot a week later. The single held in first place for a pair of frames before descending. It was also a big sales win, and it’s performed well on streaming sites as well.
