‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ breaks Disney+ record for most streamed music film – SF Chronicle Datebook

Taylor Swift has again set a new record.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” debuted on Disney+ on Thursday, March 14, and has become the No. 1 concert film ever on the streamer, raking in 4.6 million views in its first three days (a “view” is defined by Disney+ as the total stream time divided by run time.) It beat Swift’s “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions,” “Black Is King: A Film by Beyoncé” and “The Beatles: Get Back,” which are among the other music films and specials currently available on the streaming service.
Disney+ reportedly paid more than $75 million for the worldwide streaming rights to Swift’s latest concert film, which became the highest-grossing concert film to date after generating $261.7 million at the global box office upon its initial release in October.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was released digitally through Universal Pictures on Dec. 13, the singer’s birthday, and included three bonus songs — “The Archer,” “Long Live” and “Wildest Dreams” — that were initially cut from the three hour-long film shown in theaters. Disney+’s extended iteration — a nod to Swift’s rerecorded albums, whose titles have been embellished with “Taylor’s Version” to signify her ownership of the music — includes five additional bonus songs: “Cardigan,” “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” “Maroon,” “You Are in Love” and “I Can See You.”
Swift brought her tour to the Bay Area for two nights at Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium in July, just one month before the concert film was shot during the first three performances of her six-night residency at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood (Los Angeles County).

Now well into the international leg of her Eras Tour, the pop superstar has already had a busy 2024. She played a whirlwind four-night stint at the Tokyo Dome in February before jet-setting to Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs who helped his team defeat the San Francisco 49ers. Earlier this month, she wrapped up Eras Tour shows in Australia and Singapore.
Taylor Swift’s 11th original studio album, “The Tortured Poets Society,” is set to release on April 19.
Swift announced her forthcoming original album “The Tortured Poets Department” at the 66th Grammys ceremony in January while accepting the album of the year award for 2022’s “Midnights.” The new record is scheduled for release April 19, and will feature collaborations with Post Malone and Florence & the Machine.
