Ariana Grande’s new album Eternal Sunshine is one of the most exciting new releases of 2024, and it was also one of the most highly-anticipated. The set has started to roll out on charts around the world, and its immediate performance is a surefire sign that even after several years away, the masses still love the pop icon.
Eternal Sunshine debuts at No. 1 in Australia. The set—her first since 2020—blasts onto the ARIA ranking of the most-consumed albums in the country, seemingly with ease.
In doing so, Grande replaces Taylor Swift at No. 1 on the albums chart down under. Last week’s leader, Lover, doesn’t just step aside–it begins a noticeable decline. In its two-hundred-and-seventeenth turn on the tally, the 2019 project slips to No. 4.
Eternal Sunshine marks Grande’s fifth No. 1 album in Australia. She’s topped the tally with all of the following full-lengths: My Everything, Dangerous Woman, Sweetener, and Thank U, Next. Two other projects from the superstar, her debut Yours, Truly and her most recent drop (until now), Positions, also reached the top 10. Those titles peaked at Nos. 6 and 2, respectively.
As Eternal Sunshine debuts at No. 1, Grande nearly scores a chart double. Her new single “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” launches in the runner-up rung on the Australian songs ranking. It comes in behind only Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” which reached the summit last frame.
While she may no longer sit at No. 1 on the Australian albums chart, Swift still occupies more than her fair share of space inside the top 10 on the tally. This frame, she fills half of all the spots between Nos. 1 and 10.
Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is a non-mover at No. 2 on the Australian albums ranking this time around. Lover declines to No. 4, and it sits just ahead of a trio of other titles from the superstar that all slide back slightly. Folklore is down to No. 5, Midnights declines to No. 6, and Reputation, the oldest of the bunch, dips to No. 7. The singer also fills five more rungs on the 50-spot tally as well.
