Best friend to Bronx rhymer Cardi B, Star Brim has just been sentenced in her RICO case, where she pleaded guilty to involvement in criminal acts connected to a blood gang subset, the 59 Brims.
Star is set to serve one year and one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised probation, AllHipHop reports. Brim, born Yonette Respass, was initially brought up along with 17 other alleged gang members on RICO charges in February 2020. Recognized as the gang’s “godmother” and highest ranking female member, Star was specifically charged with participating in a racketeering conspiracy and with ordering a slashing, the indictment reads. Other members have been brought up on charges including two murders and five attempted murders.
Star isn’t the only one getting caught up in the RICO wave, as fellow New Yorker Casanova landed 15 years last summer for his connection to another Blood subset, the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation.
“Caswell Senior is not just a notorious recording artist, but he is also a high-profile leader of a vicious street gang and a magnet for gang violence,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams detailed in a statement. “At a crowded Miami house party, Senior personally fired a gun that seriously injured and could have killed a victim, inciting a shootout.”
He went on, “Further, Senior’s stature in the community was central to Gorilla Stone’s successful recruitment and nationwide expansion. Today’s sentencing — along with the other significant sentences that have been imposed in this case — shows once again that gang life is not worth it and will lead to many years in prison.”
In what seems like the longest ongoing RICO case in Hip-Hop, Young Thug is still behind bars after being detained in May of 2022.
